“I’m Mitch Ceasar, and I’m running for Broward Supervisor of Elections. I’ve spent more than 40 years living and working in our community as an attorney, election law adviser, and recount expert. Of course, this is Broward County, and we have more than our fair share of election drama. It’s time to get Broward back on track. I am the only candidate in this race that has substantive election law experience. I helped create the Bush vs. Gore recount of 2000, and I have been involved in every recount since then in Broward. I sat on the Florida Judicial Nominating Commission, pushing for women and minorities to receive appointments as judges. I also served as the Florida and Broward Democratic Party Chairman. I’ve enjoyed a life outside of politics with my wonderful wife, two kids, and dog as well.

In addition to spending decades on community and voter outreach, I was also the treasurer — and eventually the chairman — of the Sawgrass Expressway Authority. This agency had a budget of more than $175 million (today’s equivalent of $400 million).

This is the only road in Broward County’s history that was completed six months early and millions of dollars under budget. That’s the type of business model I would use as the Supervisor of Elections. I also fully understand that the voter is the customer, and I have to make the customer happy. How do I do that? I will do it by restoring confidence in all of the communities in Broward. How do I ensure confidence in our voting system? I will make sure that all votes are counted.”

Experience Matters

“Why does experience matter? In our divisive political climate, it matters more than ever! I am the only candidate that will be ready on Day One to reform and improve the election system in our community.

I’ve been an attorney for 40 years and an election expert for my entire adult career.

I have remained an outspoken advocate against voter suppression throughout my career as an attorney, activist, and party chairman. I have been a public voice in support of Amendment 4, which restores the right to vote for individuals with certain criminal convictions, in spite of the Republican legislature trying to undo the will of the people.

I’ve become — out of necessity — an expert on voter recounts. I helped create the Bush vs. Gore recount in 2000 in Broward, the biggest recount in our country’s history. I helped assemble a team of experts for that recount in order to ensure that all votes would be counted. I have also been involved in every recount since then in Broward County. I have continued to study and analyze the evolving field of election law and remain up to date on its nuances.

I’ve represented numerous cities in front of the Broward County Commission, which funds the Supervisor of Elections Office. I understand how to navigate the complex process of advocating for city funding on behalf of governmental entities. I have personally spoken to numerous Broward commissioners about funding my plans to prevent election hacking and improve Broward’s controversial signature matching program, which requires voters’ signatures on mail-in ballots to match the signatures on file.

There is no substitute for real experience. I am ready to work for you on Day One.”

EVERY VOTE COUNTS

“Every vote counts. It not only counts in Florida since we are a swing state, but it especially counts in Broward County. Broward has experienced far too many recounts, delays, and missing ballots. Voter confidence is at an all-time low. I will utilize my vast knowledge and experience in election law, recount procedures, and community outreach to make sure that every vote counts.

I have personally reached out across the country to some of the best election law minds to learn more about election technology. With their assistance, we will implement new cyber-security technology and best practices in order to prevent election hacking and fraud. I will also seek additional funding in Tallahassee for cyber-security programs. I have significant experience as an attorney representing public entities in Tallahassee seeking similar funding.

Also, as you know, voter suppression has been an issue in Florida for years. As Supervisor of Elections, I will work tirelessly to prevent voter suppression and disenfranchisement of people based on race, ethnic background, age, and disability. We can fix voter suppression in Broward by making sure that the system is working for everyone. Absentees and voting materials need to be available both in English and other languages. Hours need to be extended for early voting so all people have the flexibility to vote in person. Polling locations and voting machines need to be accessible to voters with physical disabilities. Community outreach needs to be expanded in order to educate individuals on the election process and how to use voting equipment.

Finally, I will utilize my experience with ballot designs to prevent future ballot errors in upcoming elections. I have spent more than 20 years proof-reading hundreds of ballots for numerous Supervisors of Elections. My experience guarantees that future ballots will not have errors.”

READY DAY ONE

“This is a job that you better be prepared for the day you walk into the office. Not a week later. Not a month later. Not a year later. This is not the time for theory. This is a time for someone with experience and proven leadership in Broward.

I’ve spent a lifetime working throughout Broward, not only as an expert on elections and recounts, but as an outspoken advocate for voting rights and against voter suppression.

Remember, we need to count every vote because every vote counts – even in a pandemic when most people are voting by mail.

Voting by mail is the safe and healthy way to protect yourself and your loved ones, while still exercising your constitutional right. Let’s remember that in Broward. In order to make a difference, you have to be able to vote confidently and safely by mail and in person. I’m qualified and ready to restore that voter confidence.”

GET BROWARD BACK ON TRACK

“Let’s get Broward back on track. I think we’re tired of being a national joke. We’ve had far too many recounts, and we can’t even recall the last time we had a normal election without controversy.

You can only do that by restoring voter confidence.

Not only do we need to get our election right, but we also need to do voter outreach and voter education. We need make sure voters feel confident in our system again.”
